Too Many In Its Class?

Small compact crossovers are well-known for their laudable fuel economy ratings, ample cargo capacity, average off-road capability, and elevated driving position. It is a crowded segment, no doubt about that, but even with so many options available, the new Mazda CX-5 2017 manages to stand out due to its myriad of strengths.

Why Mazda?

“What’s so unique about the 2017 CX-5,” you ask. Because in addition to satisfying the above-mentioned requirements, it also goes a bit further and offers a smooth and whisper-quiet ride quality, nicely-trimmed cabin, comfortable seats, and impressive exterior visibility. Also, it offers a sporty handling and precise steering – a rarity for vehicles in this segment.

Built For Everyday Life

Whether you’re looking for a vehicle suited for running daily errands like dropping kids to school, cruising on the highway, or looking for a high-economy car, the Mazda CX-5 is easy to live with. Refinements for 2017 include more cabin storage space, an updated infotainment system, an electronic parking brake, exterior styling tweaks, a larger seat-bottom cushion, a revised suspension tuning, and reduced road noise.

Is There Any Competition?

Weak points on this generally appeasing vehicle aren’t abound, but just to satisfy the existence of cynics, some of them include a weak acceleration with the base engine, and a sub-par stereo sound quality. Some of the alternatives to consider in this class include the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, and the Jeep Cherokee.

Japan Vs Germany – 2017 Mazda 6 Review

Undoubtedly a fine choice for a midsize sedan, the new 2017 Mazda 6 redesign offers it a new lease of life with new features such as a sporty handling, technology laden interior, smooth and responsive powertrain, stylish looks, excellent fuel economy ratings, and a quick acceleration. The Mazda 6 release date should be expected sometime in February 2017.

Like The Best?

Despite the inability to garner a significant fanatic following relative to other models in its class, the Mazda 6 remains one of the best sedans available today, and comes with parallel features such as those of the segment’s best. In fact, its features and technology list go tire-to-tire with German vehicles. In addition to the above hype (actually it isn’t), the newest member also retains some of the defining hallmarks of the Mazda 6: spacious cabin, impressive fuel economy, and agile handling.

Another appealing feature about the Mazda 6 2017 is its superb combination of performance, and fuel economy. The two features are metaphorically the opposite poles of a magnet, and both can hardly work seamlessly in the same situation. With the available i-Eloop system, Mazda says the new model should be able to achieve fuel economy ratings of about 32 mpg in combined city/highway driving. It does this without compromising the performance, which the automaker says comes with a solid acceleration figure adequate enough to enable you carve through city traffic or getting up to highway speeds.

More Advanced Design?

The 2017 Mazda 6 interior has also seen some new developments too. The design is much more refined, as are the technologies. The infotainment system now offers a faster response rate and comes with high-quality graphics. The exterior visibility is excellent. The new vehicle isn’t without gripes, however. The ride quality is somehow stiffer for a car within that price range, there’s no option for an engine upgrade, and the level of athleticism is average relative to other vehicles in its class.

Rivals include the Ford Fusion, the “A” rated Honda Accord, Kia Optima, Toyota Camry, and the Subaru Legacy.

2017 Mazda 6 Review of Trims

Three trims, as of this writing, are available for the 2017 Mazda 6: Grand Touring, Sport, and Touring – the exact same lineup offered for the 2017 Mazda CX-5, apparently.

EPA estimates the fuel economy for the automatic-equipped models to check in at 26/38/31 mpg in the city/highway/combined, 28/40/32 mpg for those with the i-Eloop feature, and 25/37/29 mpg for the manual-equipped models.

How Good Is The New 2017 Mazda CX-3? Release Date, Specs & Info

The new 2017 Mazda CX-3 once again sets the benchmark for B-segment crossovers. In total disregard of what other brands were working on, Mazda went the unconventional way and produced a car that was aimed for the young and creative niche. Indeed, it turned out just the way Mazda had planned: stylish, well-equipped, and nimble.

Additionally, with its excellent fuel economy ratings, a high-quality interior boasting of latest tech and up-to-date material quality, whisper-quiet interior, and a sporty handling, the new Mazda CX-3 became a household name among the subcompact crossover segment. Read on to learn more about its release date and price, and fascia redesigns.

KODO Design

A human centric approach was the driving force behind its creation. This is obvious in terms of the vast lineup of advanced active safety technology, easy-to-use smartphone connectivity, a human-machine infotainment system, and an exceptional ergonomic heads-up display. Similar to the KODO design language and SkyActive technology that is shared with the 2017 Mazda 3, Mazda 6, and the Mazda CX-5, the new model also spares nothing in its quest to provide a vehicle that appeals to a wide range of needs. The result is a vehicle that appeals universally as opposed to a polarizing.

In spite of its decent dimensions, the new model stands toe-to-toe with the top dogs of the segment – a feat that Mazda by extension is known for in the automotive circles. The model under review belongs to the subcompact crossover SUV, and even despite the solid competition poised by other brands, the CX-3 stands tall thanks in part to the well-equipped cabin, sporty handling, and an upgraded infotainment system. Without any hype spicing (why would there be), the new model is arguably the nicest and fun-to-drive car the class has ever seen.

Nice Fuel Economy

Another thumbs up for the Mazda CX-3 2017 is perhaps its favorable fuel economy ratings it provides. The 2016 Mazda CX-3 registered a combined city/highway rating of 31 mpg with the FWD version and 2 mpg less with the AWD versions. Even with such savings, the CX-3 still manages to offer a laudable 0-60 mph acceleration – a fete not shared by many in its class.

For subcompact shoppers however, there are a number of other solid choices lined up for the new model year. Culpable culprits include the Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, and the Fiat 500X. When all is said and done, one thing is for sure, the 2017 Mazda CX-3 is hard to beat.

2017 Mazda CX-3 Release Date & Price

An MSRP starting from around $28,385 is what separates a potential buyer from one of the most admirable subcompact available for sale for 2017. As for its release date, rumors allege the new model will be released sometime in the second half of 2017.

2017 Mazda CX-3 Exterior Changes

The exterior design perfectly mixes with the contemporary demands in terms of sophistication and simplicity. The progressive styling cues available exude fun and do so with dignity, reflecting an independent look, enlightened and active lifestyle of the typical buyer. As mentioned previously, the new model also shares the KODO design language with its class, this therefore means it comes with a bold front fascia, side moldings, a high beltline, sculpted flowing lines, and larger wheels that exude a “go-anywhere, do anything” character. The headlights, taillights, and fog lights are all available with LED technology and glint of predator-like eyes.

Bigfoot In The House

The footprint is also bigger than conventional. The KODO design language provides eighteen-inch aluminum wheels, gunmetal grey metallic contour surfaces, three-dimensional contoured spokes, and shiny outer surface finish. The headlamps have been complemented by the taillights that stretch from the sides all the way to the liftgate. Other features available around back include prominent dual exhaust pipes, and a three-dimensionally contoured brake lamp that go a long way in underscoring SUV durability. As shall be seen on the spec area, the new model comes with nine body colors.

2017 Mazda CX-3 Interior

The same sophistication available on the outside continues deep within. Some of the standard accessories available include cruise control, a six-speaker sound system, cloth upholstery, a rear roof spoiler, variable intermittent wipers, adaptive cruise control, and a Bose sound system.

Trims Available

Three trims are available: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The CX-3 MPS is reviewed elsewhere.

Engine Specs

Beneath the hood of the Mazda CX-3 is a 146-hp – generating 2.0L four-cylinder engine. Torque output stands at 146 lbs. a six-speed manual is the default transmission. A choice of either FWD or AWD is available.

Safety And Stuff For Nerds

When we come to the Mazda CX-3 safety, it comes with a plethora of systems including Mazda Radar Cruise Control, forward collision warning, distance recognition support system, smart brake support, Mazda’s rear vehicle monitoring, a blind spot monitor, and smart city brake support. The government crash testing report is yet to be offered, but we imagine it’ll be perfect once it is made available on its release date.

Camouflaged But Not Invisible – 2017 Mazda 2 Review

Spy photos of what appears to be the all-new 2017 Mazda 2 have resurfaced. It is heavily disguised and only partial parts of the headlights, foglights, taillights, and grille can be seen. It’s been two years now since we last had a thorough Mazda 2 redesign, and going by the current market dynamics, it is only natural to imagine that Mazda gave it substantial facelifts. Indeed, those in the know say the new model has been amped up to resonate well with the rest of the vehicles in the rival camp. Release date rumors suggest it’ll go for sale sometime in the latter half of 2017.

To Update Or Not To Update?

Having to improve something considered good already is a challenge. Well, Mazda seems to have mastered this judging by the enhancements the new model is slated to feature. Subcompacts have really captured the attention of most brands thanks to their versatility, fuel efficiency, maneuverability in tight spaces, and ample interior room in spite of their compactness. If the aforementioned features are the basis that qualify a subcompact car, then it’d be fair to say that the new 2017 Mazda 2 is set to blow away people’s expectations.

Lighter, Safer And Silent?

Rumors allege it has lost considerable weight over its predecessor. This has been achieved by the relentless pursuit of shedding of unnecessary grams off of it. In doing so, Mazda enhanced collision safety with the help of also a stiffer chassis and body. Cabin noise and emissions have also greatly improved. What however remains to be seen is what lurks beneath the bonnet. It is unlikely Mazda will carry-over the same mills offered for the outgoing models unchanged. This doesn’t mean however that it is improbable.

In case the latter holds water, then we expect the SkyActiv 1.5L, diesel, a petrol SkyActive-G 1.3L/1.5L, and a 2.0L SkyActiv-G engine. The 1.5L SkyActive-D diesel engine should be able to crank out 103 horsepower @4,000 rpm, and 184 pounds-feet of torque @1,500 – 2,500 rpm. The exterior and cabin are extraordinarily attractive thanks to the KODO – Soul of Motion exterior design.

Main Rivals Are…

Rivals include the Ford Fiesta and the Volkswagen Polo. The Fiesta is Mazda 2’s most revered rival available for the USA market. The latest revisions the Fiesta had were offered last year and included a bevy of new engines and transmissions, an upgraded infotainment screen, additional features, and a new front fascia. Engines are above average, with the least powerful offering an output of around 120 ponies and the fieriest cranking out 197 horsepower. 0-60 mph run is achieved in around 10.0 seconds. Pricing starts from $14,600. The Volkswagen Polo, on the other hand, is offered with just about the same output but with a slightly higher price that starts from $17K.

2017 Mazda 2 Canada Release Date & Price

It is still very early to start speculating about the pricing and the possible release date. However, rumor has it the MSRP might probably balloon slightly to around $16,000 for the basic version given the nature of the redesigns. If that turns out to be true, then it’ll be a 2K jump over the existing model that goes for sale for $14,720. The release date should be expected sometime in the latter half of 2017.

2017 Mazda 2 Exterior Spy Pics

2017 Mazda 2 spy shots

Even with a heavy disguise evidenced by the pictures, it is quite apparent that the new model comes with some interesting looks. Mazda is well-known for its award-wining designs mirrored in the muscular lines, solid stance, rear-leaning cabin, and overall design the Mazda 2 is offered with.

2017 Mazda 2 rear angle, taillights and tailpipe

Some of the areas we should expect Mazda to make facelifts on include the color palette, grille, LED headlights’ cluster arrangement, and aerodynamic cues. Redesigns that’ll make the Mazda 2 look fresh and lively.

2017 Mazda 2 Interior Spy Pictures Show Very Little

2017 Mazda 2 interior, dashboard, gear shift knob and steering wheel

As the images show, there’s nothing much to show about the interior as everything is heavily camouflaged from the outside. What we however know is the fact that the new model’s interior offers an excellent symbiotic relationship of the following elements – ergonomics, craftsmanship, and comfort.

Available Trims

No trim has been announced yet.

Engine Specs

2017 Mazda 2 engine

Under the hood should be several engines on offer. However, only one is known as the rest are yet to be confirmed by Mazda if they’ll be offered or not. The engine in question is the 1.5L SKYACTIVE-D diesel engine offering 103 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque.

Safety technologies are yet to be offered. Our guess is that the new Mazda 2 sedan 2017 will be offered with excellent safety systems that should rival those of offered by its peers in the subcompact class. Crash impact assessment results from the NHTSA will be updated here on its release date.
