The new 2017 Mazda CX-3 once again sets the benchmark for B-segment crossovers. In total disregard of what other brands were working on, Mazda went the unconventional way and produced a car that was aimed for the young and creative niche. Indeed, it turned out just the way Mazda had planned: stylish, well-equipped, and nimble.
Additionally, with its excellent fuel economy ratings, a high-quality interior boasting of latest tech and up-to-date material quality, whisper-quiet interior, and a sporty handling, the new Mazda CX-3 became a household name among the subcompact crossover segment. Read on to learn more about its release date and price, and fascia redesigns.
A human centric approach was the driving force behind its creation. This is obvious in terms of the vast lineup of advanced active safety technology, easy-to-use smartphone connectivity, a human-machine infotainment system, and an exceptional ergonomic heads-up display. Similar to the KODO design language and SkyActive technology that is shared with the 2017 Mazda 3, Mazda 6, and the Mazda CX-5, the new model also spares nothing in its quest to provide a vehicle that appeals to a wide range of needs. The result is a vehicle that appeals universally as opposed to a polarizing.
In spite of its decent dimensions, the new model stands toe-to-toe with the top dogs of the segment – a feat that Mazda by extension is known for in the automotive circles. The model under review belongs to the subcompact crossover SUV, and even despite the solid competition poised by other brands, the CX-3 stands tall thanks in part to the well-equipped cabin, sporty handling, and an upgraded infotainment system. Without any hype spicing (why would there be), the new model is arguably the nicest and fun-to-drive car the class has ever seen.
Nice Fuel Economy
Another thumbs up for the Mazda CX-3 2017 is perhaps its favorable fuel economy ratings it provides. The 2016 Mazda CX-3 registered a combined city/highway rating of 31 mpg with the FWD version and 2 mpg less with the AWD versions. Even with such savings, the CX-3 still manages to offer a laudable 0-60 mph acceleration – a fete not shared by many in its class.
For subcompact shoppers however, there are a number of other solid choices lined up for the new model year. Culpable culprits include the Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, and the Fiat 500X. When all is said and done, one thing is for sure, the 2017 Mazda CX-3 is hard to beat.
2017 Mazda CX-3 Release Date & Price
An MSRP starting from around $28,385 is what separates a potential buyer from one of the most admirable subcompact available for sale for 2017. As for its release date, rumors allege the new model will be released sometime in the second half of 2017.
2017 Mazda CX-3 Exterior Changes
The exterior design perfectly mixes with the contemporary demands in terms of sophistication and simplicity. The progressive styling cues available exude fun and do so with dignity, reflecting an independent look, enlightened and active lifestyle of the typical buyer. As mentioned previously, the new model also shares the KODO design language with its class, this therefore means it comes with a bold front fascia, side moldings, a high beltline, sculpted flowing lines, and larger wheels that exude a “go-anywhere, do anything” character. The headlights, taillights, and fog lights are all available with LED technology and glint of predator-like eyes.
Bigfoot In The House
The footprint is also bigger than conventional. The KODO design language provides eighteen-inch aluminum wheels, gunmetal grey metallic contour surfaces, three-dimensional contoured spokes, and shiny outer surface finish. The headlamps have been complemented by the taillights that stretch from the sides all the way to the liftgate. Other features available around back include prominent dual exhaust pipes, and a three-dimensionally contoured brake lamp that go a long way in underscoring SUV durability. As shall be seen on the spec area, the new model comes with nine body colors.
2017 Mazda CX-3 Interior
The same sophistication available on the outside continues deep within. Some of the standard accessories available include cruise control, a six-speaker sound system, cloth upholstery, a rear roof spoiler, variable intermittent wipers, adaptive cruise control, and a Bose sound system.
Three trims are available: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The CX-3 MPS is reviewed elsewhere.
Beneath the hood of the Mazda CX-3 is a 146-hp – generating 2.0L four-cylinder engine. Torque output stands at 146 lbs. a six-speed manual is the default transmission. A choice of either FWD or AWD is available.
Safety And Stuff For Nerds
When we come to the Mazda CX-3 safety, it comes with a plethora of systems including Mazda Radar Cruise Control, forward collision warning, distance recognition support system, smart brake support, Mazda’s rear vehicle monitoring, a blind spot monitor, and smart city brake support. The government crash testing report is yet to be offered, but we imagine it’ll be perfect once it is made available on its release date.
