With the Euro-spec 2017 Ford Edge already out, and spy photos of the U-S-spec version causing an Internet buzz, it is only judicious that we offer the Ford Edge’s aficionados a sneak preview of what they should expect come mid-2017 when its release date is expected to take place. For 2017, the new model comes equipped with, in addition to other features, upscale technologies such as active noise control, Ford adaptive steering, and pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection. Rumors also say the new model sets new benchmarks for quality materials and interior space. Comfort and convenience features are abundantly supplied too.

According to Ford, the new 2017 Edge has been designed to ease the driving stress associated with driving in town or country courtesy of the myriad of technologies offered. The Front wide-view camera technology helps drivers to avert collisions by providing clear visibility around corners. The sophisticated parking technologies can steer and locate into or out of spaces without engaging the driver. The intelligent AWD system available optimizes traction in slippery conditions. Rounding off the impressive spec sheet are perhaps the powerful and efficient engines offered.

The Bigger They Are…

Take the Ford Edge for a test drive and you’ll buy into the idea that not all SUVs need to be the biggest thing on the road. And even so, the Edge will still offer all your occupants ample room to spare and still fit into your garage effortlessly. Although the US-spec Edge is still shrouded in mystery, some of the highlights we should nonetheless expect include a smoother ride quality, strong fuel efficiency, many available tech and luxury features, and well-trimmed interior boasting of high-quality materials.


As is the case with most vehicles, the 2017 Ford Edge will not be the decisive victor in the three-row crossover SUV segment. The 2017 Kia Sorento, the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the 2016 Nissan Murano are also capable SUVs that should warrant some buyers’ attention.

Release Date And Price For The 2017 Ford Edge?

Pricing is yet to be announced, probably because it’s still very early even to think about it. But even as Ford takes its ample time, pricing isn’t expected to deviate much from the current base price that starts from an MSRP of $39,060 for the Edge SE. Matters remain the same for its release date. Rumors however allege we should expect the new model to go for sale sometime in mid-2017.

2017 Ford Edge Exterior Is Concealed

As you see from the spy pictures, the Edge is heavily camouflaged. What cannot however be gainsaid is the bold, sporty and imposing figure it offers. An imposing presence is offered by the large trapezoidal front grille that is flanked by the stylish LED daytime running lamps and sleek headlamps. Even in stationery mode, the heavily sloped windscreen delivers a feeling of motion, while the performance and power is emphasized by the strongly sculpted wheel arches and raised waistline.

Around back, the wraparound LED taillights give the Edge a jewel-like, premium, and modern look. The tailgate window, high-mounted spoiler, and the chrome exhaust tail-pipes all enhance the SUV’s sporty look, aggressive look and add to the cars feeling of movement.

If the Euro-spec model is anything to go by, the U-S-spec version will come with not less than thirteen colors (discussed below).

The new model gains a premium impression from the moment the doors are opened thanks to the cutting-edge designs, and harmonious, high-quality materials bundled inside. Functional components such as cup holders, air vents, steering wheel controls, and door handles are framed with a satin metal-finish, with a stylish piano black finished center console.

For an elegant feel, the new model provides seven ambient LED lighting colors, while the interior and the seats come with a distinct look and detailing in Trend, Sport, and Titanium specification levels. Additional details will be known during its release date slated for mid-2017.

Available Trims

Four trims should be expected for the new 2017 Ford Edge: Sport, Titanium, SEL, and SE.

Engine Specs Trio

Three engines should be expected under the hood of the 2017 Ford Edge: a 245 horsepower, turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder; a 280 horsepower, naturally-aspirated 3.5L V6; and a 315 horsepower, turbocharged 2.7L V6 engine. Maximum towing capacity with the 3.5 liter engines stands at 3,500 pounds, and 2,000 pounds with the 2.7L V6 engine. Mpg details are yet to be announced.


Features and technologies include pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, glare-free Highbeam technology, adaptive LED headlamp technology, perpendicular parking, cross traffic alert, side parking aid, and park-out assist. The existing model earned a five out five star rating for overall crash impact protection, similar results should be expected for the new Ford Edge 2017.
